Exhibition statement: As a fibre-based artist I feel a special connection to the histories my materials have lived and feel a palpable sensitivity to the role my part plays in those stories. Listening is an exhibition which explores how my materials are often a guiding force as I investigate how my reality is both challenged and realized by my surroundings, especially within the context of interpersonal relationships.
About the artist: Janna Maria Vallee is an interdisciplinary artist working primarily with weft-faced tapestry woven with yarns she naturally dyes herself. In 2013 she graduated with distinction from the Fibres and Material Practices program at Concordia University in Montreal Quebec.
