Last summer we had such fun with Ros and the indigo vats – we’re doing it again!
Come and play for a day with indigo. Vats will be set up at FibreWorks on the deck from 10am to 4pm. Bring your natural fibre yarns and fabrics ready to dip – please no more than 1lb of yarn or ½ m of fabric at a time.*
We will work with 2 different indigo vats; natural indigo, and one made with iron and lime, or calx to activate the dyestuff. This second vat gives a slightly different blue, depending on the fibres being dyed.
Ros will show participants how to start and maintain both vats, and for those who want it, instruction will be offered in various resist techniques. You’ll come away with a greater understanding of this magical dye, and lots of lovely blue fabrics and yarn.
Participants will need rubber gloves and a dust mask, sharpies, masking tape, and string, needles and thread. You may want to bring some of your fabrics already resisted, but there will be tools and items available at the Yurts for your use, as well as lots of ideas for resist patterning.
To register for this indigo dyeing opportunity, call 604-883-2380 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org by August 31. This workshop will be held at the Yurts – 12887 Sunshine Coast Hwy, Madeira Park, BC.
*You may bring more lbs of yarn or metres of fabric – just not bundled in larger skeins or packages.
