Mary has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a Certificate in Clay and Textiles (Capilano University). She was a weaving instructor in Fashion Design at Kwantlen College (1989-1991) and University-College of the Fraser Valley (1991-2000). Mary has exhibited widely and taught weaving workshops for guilds and conferences in Canada and the United States including the Association of Northwest Weavers Guilds Conferences (1993, 1997, 1999) and HGA Convergence 2004. In 2003 she was awarded the HGA/Interweave Press “Teach-It-Forward Award” for teaching excellence and the Craft Association of BC “Hilde Gerson Award” for her contribution to the BC craft community and for excellence in weaving.
